CSCL Links and Resources
Here is a list of the places we worked this week. You can click on the name to get contact information from each organization's website.
Matthew 25 is a place that helps people infected and affected by HIV and AIDS get the care and support needed. Although, we didn't take pictures, a group worked in a garden there on Wednesday morning.
The Habitat for Humanity Restore is a place where you can go to get gently used and surplus items for your home. They sell household items and construction items. Proceeds benefit Henderson Habitat for Humanity. A group of our students helped clean sinks, tubs, and toilets the store stocks so they could be moved to the new location near Dixon and Green streets.
St. Anthony's Hospice has helped many families in Henderson and surrounding counties. Hospice is a place for people who are the end of their lives and want to die in a dignified manner in their homes. At Hospice, we made a book that will help families share memories and special times wtih their loved ones. We also learned about hospice. And they fed us lunch!
Riverview School provides educational programs, respite care, and emotional support for children having special needs and their families. We spent time in each of the classrooms there and learned some fun dance moves.
The New Hope Animal Rescue Center is new in Henderson County. It rescues dogs and cats and operates as a no kill shelter. There is also a program that allows residents to bring in stray cats, have them spayed or neutered, and then release them back in their neighborhoods (or wherever they came from) for just $25. Their adoption rates are great and kids from our group have a half price deal on any animal.

Small Group 2: Cross Shaped Love
1. Are there types of people you don't like (don't name names!)?
2. When you were in elementary school, did you have any enemies? Did you ever try to get back at them for things they did to you?
2a. (a question not on the paper that I asked my group when I was bombarded with stories about kids who were mean in elementary school) What if you showed up here this week and I told you that we were going to that person's house and serving by helping with his/her chore list? How would you feel about that?

3. According to this passage, what does it mean to serve?
4. Is there anything in this passage that motivates you to serve others? What is it and why does it motivate you?
5. Do you think God calls middle school students to serve others? Why or why not?
6. What kinds of service can you do in your community? Why is this service important?
