Spiritual Discipline: Solitude

Overview from our discussion on 10/26:

How did you prepare for your day today? If you knew that you would not see another person all day today, would you have prepared differently? Relationships are great--and God made us for relationships, but we also need to follow Jesus' example and spend time alone. When we spend time alone and focus on God, we often experience some life-changing, spiritual growth.

Scripture passages: Mark 1:35-39

Mark 6:45-51

Mark 14:32-43

Questions to consider:

1. Why do you think the Bible tells us Jesus spent time in solitude?

2. How does Jesus' time in solitude seem to have affected his ministry?

3. How might times of solitude affect our ability to minister to others?

4. How can solitude build our faith?

As you spend time alone with God, use this as a guide to make your time valuable:

Consider what's important in life. What really matters? How do you spend most of your time and energy? How SHOULD you spend your time and energy. Is there anything that needs to change in your life?

Consider your relationship with God. What's good about that relationship? What's missing? What are you thankful for?

Read a favorite Scripture passage. What is God saying to you through this passage?

What are some things you want to talk to God about?
